We are very excited to share a visit from Jess Gill - a music teacher who has just graduated from the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. Jess shared her musical talents as she delighted the children with a short performance on the piano, flute and harp!
The ability to play such a range of instruments is a testament to Jess' hard work and dedication but also to her love of music and commitment to success. This is something we aim to instil in all of our learners - whatever their passions may be!
Jess is offering instrumental lessons in school. Information has been sent home with the children.
Today, we welcomed Tom from the local church to lead our Epiphany assembly. He shared the story of the Three Wise Men and the significance of their journey, engaging the children with thoughtful reflections. It was a wonderful way to start the year, bringing the school together to learn, reflect, and celebrate this special Christian occasion.
In Outdoor Learning, the children have been learning about fire and nature. They now know how to: use tinder and matches; collect and grade suitable kindling and fire wood; safely add the wood to the fire and cook on it. The children also learnt how to identify the different types of trees in our school grounds by looking at leaf shapes, seed types and bark type. The children really enjoyed building on their knowledge - hopefully they can teach you something new!
Reverend Tom visited Rucstall this week to talk to the children about Lent. The children learned that, for Christians, Lent is celebrated to remember when Jesus avoided temptation after being alone in the desert for 40 days and nights, without food or water. This got the children thinking about things in their lives that they could moderate. Could they swap eating chocolate for healthier foods? Could they give up television in order to spend time helping their care givers at home? It was, as always, a fun and thought-provoking assembly.
Today, we celebrated World Book Day with a fantastic focus on storytelling! Children had the opportunity to share their love of reading by reading stories to different year groups, fostering a wonderful sense of community and enthusiasm for books. The day ended with an engaging assembly on storytelling, inspiring everyone to bring stories to life. A brilliant celebration of the magic of reading!
The children dressed up in non-uniform - with lots of red - to raise awareness of Comic Relief!
We managed to raise over £200 as a school! Thank you!
To celebrate and appreciate the amazing women in our lives, children took part in a special event featuring photo frame making, a peaceful woodland walk, leaf rubbings, enjoying a book and a gallery photoshoot experience. A big thank you to our fantastic EARA team for organising such a thoughtful and memorable afternoon!
Our talented young musicians rocked the stage with amazing performances full of energy and enthusiasm!
Look out for their sell-out stadium tours in the future!
Our Easter celebrations included a fun-filled Easter Egg Hunt with an orienteering twist! Children from different year groups paired up to solve clues and find the hidden message around the school grounds. It was a brilliant way to build teamwork, enjoy the outdoors, and celebrate together.
This year’s PTFA Easter Fayre was a fantastic event full of fun and excitement that we managed to host outside! Highlights included a very popular egg raffle, a lively tombola, and a range of games run brilliantly by our Year 6 pupils. SCL Wraparound Care also joined the fun with an entertaining game that had everyone smiling. A great afternoon enjoyed by all!
Thank you to all involved.
We were incredibly lucky to be invited to Newhouse Farm today. It is a working farm on an enormous, 800 hectare, working farm estate, that is also part of LEAF (Learning, Education and Farming). This means that as well as providing 'field to fork' agriculture, they also provide opportunities to teach other farmers how to explore more modern approaches to farming!
The children learned so much about how the animals are reared; how they are tracked; about different areas of the plant and crop fields - and what makes them an essential part of life in the UK
We were also fortunate enough to see roe deer prancing through the rape-seed fields as well as pheasants sauntering through the woodland.
A huge thank you to the team who engaged and educated us all.
