English as an Additional Language at Rucstall Primary School

Celebrating Languages

At Rucstall Primary School, we understand the importance of celebrating first languages. Did you know, over 30% of our children speak a language in addition to English?

We encourage our children with English as an Additional Language to continue to speak their home-language alongside English and engage the support of EMTAS to ensure we offer the correct levels of support.

Young Interpreters

We are proud to have the Young Interpreters Scheme at Ructsall - with our children taking the lead when welcoming pupils from other parts of the world, into our community.  Over

50 pupils applied to for a position, with 20 being interviewed. The children meet regularly and ensure that they are present to support our new pupils as they navigate their new daily routines.

Language of the Term

Each term, we celebrate one of the languages spoken in our school. Our native speakers become the Language Ambassadors. They share their language and culture in assemblies; wear national dress and encourage the rest of the school community to speak the language of the term during the term.
