Rucstall Primary School

A caring, fun loving, learning community

Hello Lime Class,

I hope you managed to find this page okay!

Keep checking it regularly as I will be updating it with work and other pieces of information. Right down at the bottom of the page there are some general tasks that it would be really good to keep doing. There is some handwriting practice (so you can shock me with your wonderful handwriting when we get back!), some spelling that we all need to know, our 'reading bingo' sheet so that you can keep going with that as well as some additional Maths questions that cover a wide range of areas. Towards the top of the page is where you will find the new work that I will set linked to what we were doing in school and our Romans topic.

Stay safe, well and happy!

Friday 27th March 2020:

Hello Lime Class,

I hope you are well and keeping busy!

Attached is the home learning for this week on the new school format. As it says on the document please do as much or as little as you can.

There is always additional tasks or ideas on the 'Learning for All' page of the school website.

Keep checking the website for updates.

Jeffy's Diary: Entry 3

Today I have been learning my times tables on TTRockstars. Miss Kay let me borrow her account so I have sent you some challenges! I have learnt a lot sitting on top of the board in school so hopefully I'll get lots right!

Jeffy's Diary: Entry 2

I came home with Miss Kay and I have been enjoying the sunshine outside, she even let me borrow a pair of sunglasses! I have been relaxing and exploring what is around me as I usually don't get to visit many different places because I am always in Lime Class. After a close inspection of the flowers I have decided that they don't taste very nice and I would not recommend trying them....oops!

I have uploaded the times tables tests that we use in class so that the children can still keep up with their weekly test. The children should know what times tables they are working on.

They have 10 minutes to complete the test, they can do workings out on scrap paper if needed. They need to get 40/40 to move up on to the next tables.

I have uploaded them in the order that the children need to complete them so if they get all of them right they can have a look at the next set.

Speed Trial - they have 5 mins to try and get as many right as they can. If the children finish before the 5 mins is up note their speed as once they start getting them all right they have to try and reduce the time it takes them.

Monday 23rd March 2020 - Maths work

I will be uploading the Maths work for Monday so that you can look at it over the weekend. We are looking at multiplication. We are learning about the grid method. Below is a video that explains how to do it if you are unsure.

Please choose the star level that is most appropriate for you.

A video for Year 3 children and their parents showing how to multiply a 2-digit number by a 1-digit number using the grid method.

Mrs Hemmings' Maths Group

Please only complete this work if you usually work in the community room with Mrs Hemmings during Maths. If this doesn't apply to you please see that Maths wok above.

Here is a video that might help the children of they need some extra help remembering how to divide by sharing. The worksheet says that the children can use counters to help, they can use any objects to share out (pencils, coins, rice, sweets e.t.c).

Sorry that these were not working previously, hopefully you can access them now!

In our English lessons we have been working on our reading comprehension skills. The children can struggle to pick out the relevant information that the question is asking. We encourage the children to try and read through the text a couple of times before they start and try and find out some of the meanings of the words that they may not understand. When reading the question, the children can highlight or underline important words in the question to help them focus on that when looking for the answer.

Jeffy's Diary: Entry 1

He is safe and well and is still in school at the moment. Be sure to keep checking the website to follow what adventures (and mischief he gets up to!)

Thursday 19th March 2020

Hello Lime Class,

I hope you are all safe and well whether you are already at home or whether you are in school.

There are some new pictures from the Winchester trip as well as World Book Day and the Science afternoon for you to look at on the normal class page. I will be updating this (hopefully...) a couple of times a week so keep checking it!

Just a little update for you! In Maths we have finished our work on inverse and estimation and have just started to look at multiplication again.

In English we have been planning and writing our recounts linked to the book 'Escape from Pompeii'.

Here is a video of someone reading through the book that we have been looking at in English. If you have been off school, write a recount of what happens in a day of the character Tranio. Remember to write in first person, add descriptions using our senses (touch, taste, smell, hear, see) and see of you can use time conjunctions to start your sentences.

Reading 1

You can still carry on with your reading bingo! Use books that you might have at home to fill in the bingo sheet. Remember you need to fill in the booklet telling me what each book is about. I will be checking them whenever we are back.

Amidst the Coronavirus outbreak, some children are being sent home as a precautionary measure for the safety of their health.  In order to support their learning whilst self-isolating at home, I have uploaded some resources to support their learning further.  In the event of a school closure, there will be additional items uploaded on this page.
